Kimono Versailles Blue
Our Versailles Kimono was inspired by just that, Versailles palace. It was the blue and gold jacquard silks present everywhere in the Petit Trianon, Marie Antoinette’s private estate off the palace grounds, that made Gabriela want to explore this theme.
The organic cotton was masterfully dyed by the women of the weavers collective in Oaxaca in order to find that exact hue somewhere in between baby blue and lavender. It was then spun and weaved with white cotton in order to give it that luminous glow that’s so present in 18th century silks.
The raw silk lining in brass gold and the jacquard upcycled fabric in gold and lavender tones used for the belt add just the slightest baroque feel.
Ikat silk from Uzbekistan completes this piece with an airy design in white and blue.
Our kimono jackets are lightly padded in order to give enough warmth and be worn from the first chilly autumn days onwards. The vest is approximately 76cm long by 60cm wide and fits comfortably sizes XS - L.
At Maison Mitla we firmly believe that another type of fashion is possible, more aware of our global conditions and in total respect for all those involved. We believe in ensuring a living wage for our partner artisan families and in minimizing as much as possible our impact in nature, all while continuously promoting french couture craftsmanship by assembling our kimonos in Paris. We believe in producing less but better in order to bring you sustainable, wearable luxury made with love.
Please note that all our garments are entirely handmade and the textiles are handweaved using traditional techniques. No machine, except a classic sewing machine, is involved in the process. This is why some irregularities may sometimes be present such as tiny apparent threads or a slight 1cm difference in length & width. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need more information on any of our collections, we’ll be more than happy to help you choose you perfect piece.
