Kimono Jackets

Kimonos are one size only and fit comfortably for sizes S to XL (french sizes 38 - 44). Their oversize cut conveys a comfy feeling perfect for mid season to early winter days. They're slightly padded with breathable padding made in Germany and can be cinched at the waist with their removable belt. For personalized custom made orders with your measurements and/or choice of textiles, please get in touch with us at hello@maisonmitla.com

Huipil dresses

The huipiles are meant to have an oversized, relaxed look. You can belt them up with one of our hand woven belts or any other belt you'd like. Pair with your favorite sandals or wedges and you're ready to go. To jazz them up a notch, add some statement jewellery, strappy heels or a metallic belt, as colourful as they are, don't be afraid to pile on accessories!

The Beauty of Handmade

Please keep in mind that as these garments are entirely hand made, small variations may occur. We work in tight collaboration with all our artisans partners to ensure the highest quality but again, as these beautiful pieces are made by hands and not machines, any sign of handiwork like a thread or tiny irregularity in a motif is completely normal. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at hello@maisonmitla.com or through our social media if you have any questions whatsoever.

Care

Huipil dresses : wash only in gentle cycle preferably on its own or with like colours at 30° maximum. Lay out to dry, do NOT tumble dry. Dry cleaning is also an option.

Kimono jackets & boleros : dry clean only. If your kimono or bolero gets wet because of rain or other, just put it on a hanger and leave it to dry for a few hours. These items do not crease easily due to the high quality of the weave. If they do happen to have a few creases, you can use a steaming machine or regular iron set to low heat. Another personal favorite hack of mine, place garment on a hanger in your bathroom, the steam from your shower will do the trick!

VIBRANT COLORS OF MEXICO

SUMMER DRESSES FULL OF LIFE

The Huipil is the traditional dress worn in Southern Mexico. There are as many variations and colors as the communities that weave them. Each huipil tells a story and the motifs woven in them are part of the iconography from the different Indigenous communities of the area. From the Mixtecs and Zapotecs in Oaxaca, to the Mayas in Yucatan and the Tzotzil in Chiapas, these dresses are woven into women’s lives.

Radiant and colorful, they are an ode to life and joy. A handcrafted treasure to keep for a lifetime.

A TALE OF ARTISANAL LEGACY

🇲🇽 WOVEN BY THE MIXTEC WOMEN OF OAXACA

The huipil is entirely handcrafted using a traditional backstrap loom and it can take up to 8 weeks to finish a single dress. It is a heritage transmitted from mother to daughter and that requires an exceptional talent and mental agility.

Made without any pattern whatsoever or design program, the huipil is the pure result of each artisan’s vision and emotions.

Maison Mitla wants to help preserve this heritage by showcasing the artisan’s incredible skills. We firmly believe that empowering women is key for social development and well being. This is why it is the artisans that set the price for their art as well as organizing the work pace according to their priorities.
