If a huipil design is unavailable you can preorder it with a preferential rate. It will be ready in approximately 1 month.

- For every huipil sold 80% goes straight to the weaver's collective in Oaxaca.
Delivery time
Once your order is shipped the delivery within Europe is 3-8 days. Delivery for the rest of the world is 5-10 days.

Shipping is free within the European Union.
For all our friends elsewhere around the globe the shipping rate is 15€.

What if I didn’t receive my order ?
When the delivery date approaches please check regularly the delivery information with the tracking number provided.
If the carrier attempts to deliver your parcel while you are absent they will leave a delivery notice informing you of its next delivery passage or pick up point.
If the parcel is notified as “delivered” but you do not have it, please check with your building superintendent/caretaker or with your neighbors. They might have retrieved the parcel during your absence.
If the parcel is signaled as “returned to expeditor” please contact us at hello@maisonmitla.com
Can I exchange/return my order ?
Returns and exchanges are of course accepted within a 30 day limit after receiving your order.
Items must be unworn, undamaged and in their original packaging.
With this preorder we will make sure to produce a little bit of extra stock to allow exchanges when needed. Nonetheless, we cannot guarantee 100% that we’ll be able to exchange your item if ever the size/color is not available. When producing on preorder stocks are limited. If this is the case, you will of course get a refund.
In case of a refund the amount will be returned to your bank account within 14 days after we receive the item.

The Huipil is the traditional dress worn in Southern Mexico. There are as many variations and colors as the communities that weave them. Each huipil tells a story and the motifs woven in them are part of the iconography from the different Indigenous communities of the area. From the Mixtecs and Zapotecs in Oaxaca, to the Mayas in Yucatan and the Tzotzil in Chiapas, these dresses are woven into women’s lives.
Radiant and colorful, they are an ode to life and joy. A handcrafted treasure to keep for a lifetime.
A TALE OF ARTISANAL LEGACY
🇲🇽 WOVEN BY THE MIXTEC WOMEN OF OAXACA
The huipil is entirely handcrafted using a traditional backstrap loom and it can take up to 8 weeks to finish a single dress. It is a heritage transmitted from mother to daughter and that requires an exceptional talent and mental agility.
Made without any pattern whatsoever or design program, the huipil is the pure result of each artisan’s vision and emotions.
Maison Mitla wants to help preserve this heritage by showcasing the artisan’s incredible skills. We firmly believe that empowering women is key for social development and well being. This is why it is the artisans that set the price for their art as well as organizing the work pace according to their priorities.
Frequently Asked Questions
A huipil is a slip-on handwoven cotton dress you can wear in moderate to hot weather. Wear it casually with flip flops or sandals for the beach, dress it up with a pair of heels and a belt.
Huipil dresses comme in two different width measurements:
-Single panel huipils are 58cm wide
-Three panel huipils are 80cm wide
Huipil dresses come in three lengths:
- Mini: 90cm
- Midi: 110cm
- Maxi: 130cm
As these are handwoven items please keep in mind there might be slight measurement variations in each design.
If you’d like to double check measurements of any of our designs in stock, please feel free to contact us at any moment.
For preorder huipils you can customize the measurements with your chosen length and width.
You can wash your huipil at home in a gentle cycle, inside out, preferably on its own or with similar colors at 30° maximum. Lay out to dry, do NOT tumble dry. Iron inside out. Dry cleaning is also an option.
For items in stock we process orders within 2 working days. Once your order is shipped the delivery within Europe is 3-8 days. Delivery for the rest of the world is 5-10 days.
Preorder huipils take about 1 month to weave. Once the parcel is shipped it should reach you within the delivery times written above.
